NEW YORK — Iranian President Massoud Pesachian told the United Nations General Assembly that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, citing ideological and religious principles.
Despite this, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ruled out any negotiations with the United States on the nuclear program, accusing Washington of breaking past commitments. His remarks came in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled Iran a “sponsor of terror” and warned the country would never obtain nuclear arms.
Currently, Iran has enriched uranium to 60% purity, below weapons-grade levels, and says it is for domestic needs. However, French President Emmanuel Macron urged Tehran to curb its nuclear program or face renewed UN sanctions. European talks remain stalled, with sanctions expected to be reinstated within days.
In a provocative move, Iranian state TV released what it called classified Israeli nuclear documents and images, including footage of the Dimona reactor, alleged details on Israeli projects, and even photos of IAEA chief Rafael Grossi. Iran’s Intelligence Minister hailed the leak as “unprecedented,” while Israel has yet to issue an official response.
