A routine fitness activity has sparked serious security concerns after it allegedly revealed the location of one of France’s most advanced military assets. Reports indicate that a soldier aboard the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier unknowingly exposed its position by uploading a jogging route to the fitness app Strava.

The aircraft carrier, deployed in a sensitive region amid rising tensions in West Asia, is typically kept under strict operational secrecy. However, a 35-minute jog recorded on a smartwatch appeared publicly as a GPS-tracked route—right in the middle of the ocean.

Because Strava logs and displays users’ movement data, the uploaded route effectively pinpointed the warship’s location. What might seem like harmless fitness tracking quickly turned into a potential intelligence leak.
